The idea with active contexts is more that you may have tasks associated with a context that you are no longer acting in, but you might in the future. This could be something as transient as home/work, but I've always envisioned it being longer term.

For Home/Office, you would probably just select that context in the sidebar to view only the actions in that context. But, say that you often travel for your job, but you also like to do some site seeing while you are there. You might schedule some projects under the Work folder, using your 'New York' context and activate the context. Then, you might have some left over entries in your Personal/Recreation folder that are from your last trip to New York.

Since you might not be back to NYC for a couple months, you could turn the context off w/o losing the information and then not be annoyed by having to scan over it in the interim.

There is nothing preventing you from toggling a context's active bit every day, though.
