I got a reply from OG people about my request for the updater to get admin privileges. I agree that using the computer as admin is not as dangerous as people might think, but I still prefer using my computer as a normal user. It's a nice way of doing things for somebody like me, who is comfortable enough with Unix to run commands and compile fink packages, but not quite knowledgeable enough to follow this thread fully.

It's a legitimate feature request, whether people prefer to run as admin or as user. :)
