I guess I'm not fully understanding the issue then. I am not seeing any difference between 5.1.3 and sp11 with image highlighting and dragging, even when I'm dragging to the Finder. There could be something, but I can't seem to reproduce it. This combined with shift+dragging was why I thought links may have been involved.

The subject is in the top right of the window, and if you click on that you can view the full thread. Doesn't seem to be the same as what you're talking about, however.
