I have sync set to manual, but it takes the iPhone about 6 seconds or longer to open; syncing can take 30 seconds or more. I reset the iPhone database once, but that did not change the sync time. The app says I have 208 actions stored in 813 zip files, which seems a little strange to me. TIA.

813 zip files is a lot -- have you synched all your clients lately? Maybe you have one machine that you haven't synched in a week or two? That will definitely slow things down.
