Ok, maybe I'm the only one who works on the weekends (ha ha), but I can't see anywhere to schedule tasks, etc for the weekend.

What am I missing?

In the View menu, choose "Calendar View". (There's also a toolbar button to switch between the views.) Then add or resize the green bubbles to include the appropriate time on Saturday and Sunday. Switch back to task view, and proceed with scheduling your tasks.
[No, I don't officially work weekends, but I *did* just answer your post and it's Saturday, so, um.....]
