The current manual says that there is a backup option under General Preferences but it doesn't appear to be there any more. I just upgraded to 5.4 today.

The current manual says that there is a backup option under General Preferences but it doesn't appear to be there any more. I just upgraded to 5.4 today.

Perhaps it has been removed in Lion; it's still present for me in Snow Leopard with 5.4.1 beta (v139.8 r167974):
