How to I get new lines spaces? Return always starts a new item whereas sometimes I just want a blank line and then a new item.

Any help would be appreciated

Option-return

FWIW, you can alter the spacing between lines in the Row: spacing inspector so that you don't have to introduce an additional carriage return.

Would "option-return" give you want you want? It gives you a new line without the hierarchy. I'm a new user too.
