The other thing I have noticed is that when I look at any item in the Inspector "Date" box, for both Start & Due it says "No Selection" and it is grayed out so I can not choose it to change it.
It says "No Selection" even on the items that I have a start date on.

Ok, so sorry, but I had the "show Due Column" unchecked in preferences!
But I am still puzzled by why the Inspector Date box does not show the start & due dates or lets me edit them there.
