Is there any way that the "duration" data type (in an appropriately-typed column) can be used to measure minutes and seconds?

Is there any way that the "duration" data type (in an appropriately-typed column) can be used to measure minutes and seconds?

You might have to use two Number columns, labelled Minutes and Seconds respectively, and write Applescripts to provide any summation or other functions which you need.
