I'm using OOP 3.6. Is there any way to associate a reference with a given row or note and then use that reference in a different place in the document?

I'm not clear what you want to do.
Every row has an id associated with it, which is accessible to Applescript. As far as I can tell, that id stays the same whatever you do to the row — move it around, change its contents, etc. Would this be useful to you? How do you want to use your reference?
