Toolbar 'active' states missing Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Did anyone notice that for one or two builds that went out recently there were 'active' states for each of the new toolbar icons (inbox, projects, contexts, due, etc)? It was there very briefly and then disappeared. I only had a day or so to get used to this look, but it made it so much easier to tell where I was at a glance.

I know that sidebars change colors and such - that certainly is another great visual indicator. But I just find the removal of the active states puzzling. Is this something we can anticipate in a future release (perhaps 1.5final)?

I'm not sure if I know what you mean.

One thing that took me a while to figure out is that there have always been the two 'buttons' (probably not the proper term) for Planning and Context Modes that say 'Mode' under them and the background of the mode selected is 'highlighted'. That made me think that maybe this is what you're talking about. Then, with the recent inclusion of the new, built in Projects and Contexts perspectives...something changed on the default toolbar. I believe that the 'mode selector' buttons used to be on the default but now are optional. I didn't realize (probably didn't read the release notes well) that they were new perspectives, not just a 'change' in the mode buttons. I like having the mode buttons there, so I added them back.

Don't know if this has anything to do with what you were asking. But it seemed related enough to mention.

Fwiw, the buttons for my self-generated perspectives in my toolbar still retain their 'selected and active' indicators when clicked. E.g. the 'General' button below:

JKT,

So the perspectives do keep their active state, but the others do not?

The selection indication for built-in views was removed as we struggled over how to indicate that the built-in views are different from actual Perspectives (despite the fact that they are listed in the Perspectives menu).

However, I think we've decided that the lack of indication is problematic, and that the selection indication will return in a point release. If you have an opinion on the subject, I suggest sending feedback to the OmniFocus support address.

What's the thinking behind the perspective name not appearing in the window title, if it is one of the built-in ones?

Not actually sure how explicit a decision that was, but possibly related to the same issue of trying to differentiate between built-in views and perspectives. As always, if you don't like the behavior, please send feedback to the normal place. :-)
