You guys working on a "iSlate" OF version? Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Something in my guts tells me you do and that my people, that would be awesome.

If only we got advance notice on super-secret stuff like this!

We're reading the same rumors that everyone else is, but that's all we have to go on at this point...

well, the only advance notice that Apple gave to app developers was that they have to tune their apps to be resolution-free - not stuck to the fixed iPhone resolution of 480x320.

So I guess OmniGroup has to retweak OmniFocus to be able to scale their user interface up or down. I guess the target date is March 2010 when the iSlate is assumed to be shipping.

Do you have a citation for that? I'd be interested in reading more about it.

Here are a few articles about Apple giving iPhone app developers the heads-up:

http://gadgetblips.dailyradar.com/st...pers-to-get-1/

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles..._jan_demo.html

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...signation.html

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...et_report.html

Of course, take this with a grain of salt. After all, this is AppleInsider which has a hit-and-miss reputation.

But if there are several news publications showing demos of how their content would work with a tablet form, it does sound interesting.

It would definitely make sense for Apple to tell developers small nuggets of information without revealing what is behind the curtains. Otherwise all the app developers out there would be caught their pants around their ankles trying to play catch up with Olympic Sprinter Usain Bolt.

I'd think that the app developers would like to be given as much a heads-up as possible before the iSlate hits the ground running in March 2010.

Personally, I'd still use OmniFocus on my iPod touch. It's much easier to lug around an iPhone or iPod touch as compared to the iSlate.

Thanks for the quick answer Brian. I've had just been reading some rumors and my enthusiasms took over. I presume we'll have to wait until they showcase that thingy to get a word from you guys, not reprehensible by any means and completely understandable.

I personally suspect the apple boys have an awesome time feeding false rumors to the insider's websites during the months previous to the keynote. Although, looking at the big picture and for what's be known so far, I hope you agree with me it will be an exceptional platform for a OF version, with fast networking / internet access, revolutionary input methods and a big screen.

Weell, enough speculation. We'll see in a few weeks.

Cheers!!

All of those examples are rumors. There has been no public notification to developers of a resolution independent implementation API, nor prep for one. While it's certainly possible the UI could take on the growing elements like traditional Mac development using Interface Builder, it's important to note Apple has not disclosed anything to developers about new devices (they also never did in the past). One has to assume that if it is to be released, Apple would want to ensure existing apps could work out of the box, so they would likely have a scale factor built in.

While a tablet device makes for great rumors, I wonder what the use case for such a device would be. Tablets on PCs haven't been huge successes, although Cocoa Touch might be a better experience, what is the market need? Larger than a phone/iPod & it doesn't fit in your pocket. So, you're basically using a bag of some kind like a laptop, so why not have a full-featured laptop? If Apple does come to release this type of a device I think they will show other use cases beyond what existing tablets are used for & I'd be interested to see what they are.

Yes, of course these are rumors. That's what I pointed out.... But take a look at this article about Apple's leak control:

http://theappleblog.com/2010/01/07/f...e-intentional/

http://www.appleinsider.com/articles...led_leaks.html

This could be an example of Apple releasing trial balloons to gauge market response and to be able to deny anything and everything if certain features that were hinted were to be tweaked, changed, or dropped. There is no physical trail. There are controlled leaks where certain Apple employees will "hint" at things to certain people in the press.

This sounds exactly like what Apple would do.
