sound when opening in new tab? Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
This is weird, I'm not sure what's going on, but I just noticed that sometimes when I cmd-click a link to open in a new tab, I hear kind of a beeping sound, almost like a little squeak. It doesn't happen in other browsers or if I just click on a link. And my speaker is muted, at first I thought my keyboard was making a sound.

I've noticed it on a couple of sites today including this one. I'll see if it keeps up. I might be going insane, in which case you can ignore this.

I've never had that happen. Is it your alert sound?

It does it on my Powerbook as well. It isn't a software issue, it is a hardware one that just happens to become evident when clicking a link in OmniWeb. Whenever the CPU is maxed at a certain threshold, certain components emit a high pitch (a similar effect to the MBP "whine"). If you want to have fun with this, try the freeware SystemLoad... if your Mac suffers from this problem, you will hear a scale play (not from the speakers, from the actual components) as the CPU ramps up.

This does happens on all of my laptop PPC machines but not on my x86 Mac since OmniWeb 4.x

Now that my personal laptop is a MBP C2D 2,33Ghz, OW is now silent :D
