next version - copy/paste from spreadsheet? PLEASE! [Feature added in 1.1] Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Having fun with Graph Sketcher for iPad! Of course I *REALLY* miss the ability to copy data from a spreadsheet (or even just text!) and paste it onto a plot. But that's coming soon, right? PLEASE?! It's just that most of my data is scatter plots ;-)

Whoops, sorry you haven't gotten a response until now!

We're definitely going to get import into OmniGraphSketcher for iPad as soon as possible. For 1.0 we were faced with a short timeframe and uncertainty about what other apps would be putting on the pasteboard, so we concentrated on the aspect of OGS that we felt was most compelling on the iPad: quickly illustrating quantitative concepts. Now that we've caught our breath and have access to other applications, we'll be able to work on import.

Here's to being able to plot actual numbers.

We just submitted OmniGraphSketcher for iPad 1.1, which includes the same copy/paste import as the Mac app. Rather than have a separate "paste as line" menu item, we connect imported series by default, but in the case of a scatter plot you can tap the line twice to select it without the points, then delete.

Thanks to everyone for your patience so far; with any luck 1.1 will be in your hands before the end of the week.

Update: OmniGraphSketcher for iPad 1.1 has been approved and is available for download in the App Store. Here are the release notes:

Am I wrong or can we still not manually enter the data points in the OGS iPad version.

Dude,

If you're looking for a data inspector that shows a table view of all your points, then you're correct; we haven't added one.

You can view and edit the coordinates for any point on your graph individually though -- they're in the info popover. Also, when dragging a point a HUD should appear with the current coordinates. With these tools it should be fairly easy to quickly create a number of points and move them to exactly where they need to be.

We haven't prioritized the data inspector because it's a tough UI question and it seems like whenever you have a lot of points to plot numerically, they already exist in text somewhere else. Our import function should cover that case quite nicely. If import doesn't work for your use case, we'd love to get some more details so that we can adjust as necessary.

Every time we capture a data point, may be hours or days), we would need to add a data point (x,y) and this is where it would be nice to open a box showing all the data and then just add the next set of data quickly.
