Parsing of dates continued Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Hey folks

Only just came across the parsing of dates thread, very useful

However, what I love in Google calendar is the ability to type this kind of stuff straight into the entry and it picks up on it - is there a way we can get this going with our to do entries? I'm not a huge fan of the inspector and hate having to go over to it.

So how about if stuff we put in square brackets gets parsed and deleted when we tidy up or hit return? So that:

Take the washing out [thursday] would get put on the right day and truncated to simply Take the washing out

or

Have phone chat with steve [next wednesday 9pm] would do the same?

I would love to have my entries parsed like this so I don't have to muck about with the inspector - I think that all the info should be able to be typed in one go without a mouse click

Of course there may be a more elegant solution. However with OF I am all about the annihilation of mouse clicks and that's why I will do anything not to have to mouse click drops downs, menus or inspectors

Use the Gear Menu at the bottom of the quick entry panel to turn on the Start and Due date columns. Use View --> Columns to turn them on in main window. These are saved on a per perspective basis.

yeah i see that but I was hoping that there may be some way for OF to parse the actual sentence I type before I enter stuff into the boxes

Instead of typing two bracket characters around your date, you type 1 tab character to go to the start (or due, depending on what you choose to show) date box and type the date. Less total typing!

Personally, I'd be pretty annoyed if I had to start escaping '[' and ']' in my action names!

That kind of parsing can be achieved by putting things into OF via email or quicksilver, I think.
