I'm going to take a guess that you are using a document template that has the Auto-layout property enabled, which will cause your objects to go scooting around the page each time you add another one, connect them, etc.
You can turn off this property on an existing drawing by opening the Canvas Inspector (cmd-3), selecting the Diagram Layout tab, and unticking the Automatic layout box. As I recall, only the Brainstorming and Organizational Charts templates have this turned on by default.

You can also LOCK (and UNLOCK) objects (command-L)
