Rectangular links one to many shapes Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Hello all.

I am sure there must be a simple way to do this but I can't find it.

Anyway I want to create a drop down hierachical diagram that has a lead box and then flows to 3 or more equally weighted second tier boxes with a vertical single line breaking into an even three way arrow split (right angle shapes).

Like the diagram in the front page of the Omnigraffle manual.

I can't see a simple way to do this without using multiple lines which involves a lot of buggering around to get the graph looking good.

Is there any automation of this type of linkage?

Cheers Spocky

Inspectors > Layout > Automatic layout provides some help with this, though the underlying Graphviz layout engine performs poorly at centering parent nodes over child ranges with larger trees.

Inspectors > Lines > Linetype=orthogonal is what you need. Overlaid orthogonal lines provide a more or less adequate emulation of one to many linkages.
