Hi all -

I have projects, that for the most part has to be done serially, but there are definitely actions that can be done in parallel. Is it possible to set up actions to be considered parallel inside of a project that is serial?

Hi tlester. Yes, you can create action groups within a project that can be set to serial/parallel independently of their parent project. You can even nest action groups within each other, each with their own serial/parallel setting. Of course, the deeper you go, the more complicated it gets. But it's a very powerful feature in planning the execution of your tasks.

To create an action group, just nest some actions under another action. The top-level action gets promoted to an action group – which is easy to mistake as a sub-project, but they really aren't. Action groups are just organizational structures and don't have contexts themselves and won't show up in context view. But they allow you to assign a default context for the actions they contain, and of course you can collapse the group to free up screen space, enter extra notes for the grouping, and, as mentioned earlier, toggle the serial/parallel setting.
