OW 5.8 Failing on some web sites Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Just so people know, I had a CSS file from our department web site locally to which to point OW. I don't know if you can select a blank document in OW's style sheet setting and if you can if it will work to reset. It's certainly worth a try, though, and I'll try it when I get home tonight.

Regards,

Dave

Strangely enough, OW just started working normally for me, and I did not make any changes.

The CSS stylesheet thats empty solved the solution. So presumably this is css related, and it sounds like something thats cached. So I looked in /tmp, but theres no /tmp/501 anymore.

Running lsof on the OW process showed these cachefiles actively opened:

$ lsof -p 70218|grep Cache
OmniWeb 70218 kai txt REG 14,2 13556568 650112 /private/var/folders/uh/uh90jpC2Fla79FXqyFLE-++++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.ATS/annex_aux
OmniWeb 70218 kai txt REG 14,2 19336 650095 /private/var/folders/uh/uh90jpC2Fla79FXqyFLE-++++TI/-Caches-/com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.sbdl
OmniWeb 70218 kai txt REG 14,2 97968 3019769 /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.IntlDataCache.le.kbdx
OmniWeb 70218 kai txt REG 14,2 1355776 3178969 /Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-023501.csstore
OmniWeb 70218 kai 6u REG 14,2 5276672 2634109 /Users/kai/Library/Caches/com.omnigroup.OmniWeb5/WebKitCache/Cache.db

Mkay, so there is a file that has 'css' in it... would that be it?

Fwiw, I think that this might be an issue in WebKit and not OmniWeb - the same thing sometimes happens to me in mobile Safari on my iPhone (long delay then no style sheet when the site finally loads). However, it is very intermittent and not a frequent occurrence. I've always put it down to a (potentially) poor or slow 3G/EDGE connection, but the descriptions here now make me wonder if it isn't something else.

Thanks everyone for your feedback on this. I agree, it sounds like it may be something going on with our implementation of WebKit (if not the systems). We've got something to go on now though.

Ditto!!! No problems or slowness of any kind here. Very fast loading of all those site.

iMac 2.16ghz, 10.5.5, 3gig ram, OW 5.8

Ironically enough, I am now consistently getting this issue with www.findaproperty.com - none of the pages will ever load in OmniWeb ("Too many HTTP redirects" error message) but they always load without any problem in Safari. This only started since getting back home after the new year for me.

Edit: Just discovered the source of my problem... it was because I had disabled cookies for the site (its my default preference). I've enabled them and pages at the site have started loading again.
