Need help/ideas with alerts Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I use OmniFocus on my Mac/iPad/iPhone. I only use alerts on my iPhone. I'm look for the best practice in setting a reminder for a task that is different than it's due date. Say I have a task that's due by the end of the week but I want to be reminded mid week.

I've tried adding an extra "remind" task with it's due date set mid week. I've also played with using the Reminder app for this. Both are too clumbsy for my taste.

Any ideas?

I have been in the same boat for sometime. Frustrating that there isn't an easier way that I've found to do just that.

Rather than establish a reminder mid-week, maybe you are looking to do something mid-week.

Instead, what about creating a task that would have you begin whatever it is that you are looking to do with a start date mid-week? That way, the completion of the due task remains at the end of the week, but the motion forward remains where you are asking to be reminded.

If you show starting items in your forecast view on iPad/iPhone, you can use the start date as the reminder to start working, and the due date as the due date. This only works if you make an effort to do some work on anything that shows up on the day's list of newly starting actions, and you have to keep working on it! I use a perspective that shows actions grouped by start date to help with this. With that I can easily check what I might have started but not finished in the last few days. It definitely helps to establish a mindset of doing at least some work on any task that starts today.

Absolutely. It can be completely game changing to get into the habit of a daily pushing forward of a project. The "Start Again" daily task repeat can help.
