Start Date grouping behavior changed - help! [A: intentional, but email ninjas.] Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Hello.

I use start dates as my primary organizing system in OF. I have tried flags, due, etc., and Start is what works for me. My main perspective is to show grouping by start date, with the No Start Date group collapsed on the Mac and the iPad version.

On the iPhone, it used to show the actions with a start date at the top of the list, but now with 1.9 for iPhone, it shows No Start Date at the top, with no way to collapse those items. So, I need to scroll past hundreds of items to see what I need to do today.

Is anyone else finding this to be a workflow issue? When I talked to a support ninja, he suggested using flags, but it really just doesn't work for me.

Thanks,
Robin

The intention of the change is to unify the behavior of the three apps; in this case, to make the iPhone app behave more like the Mac app. That said, I believe we got a phone call from a customer last week who had a similar preference for the old behavior.

If you email the support ninjas, we can attach you to the item we opened on this in the development database so the rest of the team will know that you'd like to see this revisited. Thanks!

I'm good at reading. You already emailed. Well, *other* folks should still send in theirs! ;-)

I actually called in about it. I'm probably the one person who called. Surprising that no one else has found this to be annoying, as I'm sure a ton of people use start dates like I do.

Anyway, if you have another suggestion for how to get a list of what starts today on the iPhone, would love to hear it.

Thanks!

One of my coworkers just came up with a workaround for you - a perspective that's ungrouped and sorted by start date puts the No Start Date items at the bottom. Downside there is that the new view won't be grouped, but it works in the current version of the app...

Yeah, that's not horrible. The trouble is, without a Start column on the iPhone, I have no way of seeing when the "today" items end and the no-start-date items begin. So, I'll give it a try.

Would be great to have more functionality around start date generally. Maybe in the next release?
