Purging Completed Actions Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
When you complete an Action and tick it, then Clean Up the Action disappears from view if you have chosen Show Action - Remaining.

I put everything into Omnifocus, mostly into the Next Actions list. This can be dozens of item per day.

Am I right in thinking that there is no way to purge what has been completed?

I can't find anything in the Help file.

I am assuming that Rebuild Database doesn't do this, the Help file says: -

Analyze and consolidate all of the entries in your OmniFocus database to make sure they are consistent. This is essentially equivalent to backing up and then restoring your database. If you are having problems with your database, this may help.

Thanks

Andy

You're right: there is no way to automatically purge completed items. If you feel a need to manually purge, show actions whose status is completed and then delete the ones you no longer need or want.

Just needed a bit of lateral thinking!

Thanks a lot

Andy

Is there still no way to purge completed actions from the entire OF database of all projects?

It's on the list of things we'd like to add, but there are a number of other requests which customers have sent in more often. In general, those get worked on first. :-)

For now you can archive them instead (File>Move Old Data to Archive…) which will take them out of your active database.

It's really pretty easy to delete them yourself, too. Bring up the built-in Completed Items perspective, Edit->Select All, Edit->Delete...is that something we really need another menu item to do?

One note of caution is that when doing this in the Project view, the 'Select All, Edit, Delete' command will also delete all the projects and single action lists that contain the completed items, and by extension, delete any uncompleted tasks within those projects and single action lists.
