How to attach saved icons to 1.7 Perspectives? Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I gather that these get lost during the upgrade from 1.6 to 1.7 and have to be recreated, right?

1.7 doesn't try to import the custom icons, but I just checked with Ken, and he's adding code for 1.7.1 to do so. (We'll be pushing 1.7.1 later today.)

In that build, you'll be able to double-click the old perspective file in the finder (we leave it in place so older versions can use them) to re-import the perspective, including the icon.

If you want to switch back to v1.6.1 until we have that build ready, that will let you use your familiar perspectives icons and setup for the time being.

If you just want to grab the icons from the 1.6 perspective files and continue using 1.7, do the following.

Open ~/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus/Perspectives
Control-click the perspective file
Select "Show Package Contents" in the menu that appears, then grab the "Icon" file in the Finder window that appears.
Drag it to OmniFocus' Perspectives window, drop it on the perspective you want to attach it to, and you're good to go.

Does that help any?

That's great, Brian! Thanks so much.

I made some slight additions to the procedure below (based on the fact that you have to have the Perspective selected BEFORE you begin the drag):

Open OmniFocus
Open Perspectives window
Select the Perspective in the left column whose icon you're changing
Open ~/Library/Application Support/OmniFocus/Perspectives
Control-click the perspective file
Select "Show Package Contents" in the menu that appears
A Finder window will appear with the contents showing the old icon
Make sure this Finder window doesn't overlap the Perspectives window
Grab the "Icon" file in the Finder window
Drag it and drop it to the top of the middle column of the Perspectives window where the icon for the Perspective you're changing is displayed
