I just emailed support with this request: an option for relative date display ("tomorrow", "3 days", etc). Maybe anything over a certain, user-settable threshold would start just displaying the date again.
As it is, looking at a list of tasks and seeing "7/30", there's an extra step there to remember today's date, then realize that's this Friday, 3 days from now.
I would even go one step further and have overdue items say "2 days overdue" or something.
