Please consider sending an email for this feature request: more robust file linking Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I've submitted the following request, and since "one of the factors that determines what we add to OmniFocus is the number of people that are requesting a given change", I'm posting so that anyone who is interested can second this, to increase the chances they do it.
Sincerely,
I love the ability to link an action to a file on my disk by drag-and-
dropping it from the Finder into the Notes field. This is useful for example when I want to attach a Word document full of details and things that can't go into the Action's Notes field itself, like Endnote references or whatever, and I'll be changing the contents of that document over time and using it in other ways (so don't want to embed a copy into the task).
The problem is that if you move that file (to another folder), OF gets confused and can't find it any more. This is because it's storing the file's exact path as the link, so when you move it, it won't be found at that path. I'm suggesting that they change it so that It would be great if your links stayed pointing to the file no matter how you moved it around in the file system (I think recording the inode instead of, or in addition to, the path would do it).
Someone on the forum pointed out that some people might want to maintain identical file trees on 2 computers between which they sync, in which case having path name is better than keeping inode (which will be different). So perhaps the new feature should record both, the pathname and inode, for a link and at least give you the option of choosing the right target rapidly (on the original computer) by inode if it does get moved, or set this as an option in Preferences so you can tell OF how you would like to treat links. I think this would very useful; please consider sending an email to the feature request department at omnifocus@omnigroup.com or just do Help->Send Feedback and ask for this kind of option for more robust linking.
Thank you!

Mike Levin
