downloads.extremesims.com won't stop downloading Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
One of the OmniGroup emails about OmniFocus 1.0 being launched was causing my mail application to be unresponsive. I was finally able to open mail, hide the preview window, and delete the email.

That was yesterday.

But this morning, my internet connection won't stop downloading from
downloads.extremesims.com.

I have no idea what is being downloaded.
Did Omni somehow manage to create a virus? :-o
Probably not, but something extremely funky is going on.

rebooted the computer...
as soon as I open up the mail program, downloads.extremesims.com starts it's 1.37Mb/s download.

It's possible this was coming from the OmniMouth RSS feed.
I have mail enabled as my rss reader in leopard.
that's when the trouble started.
When I got the OF 1.0 update via the RSS feed in Mail.
I put a stop on the domain in my firewall...
and then I went to mail and saw that the omni mouth feed was hung.
So I deleted it,
removed my stop in the firewall
and it hasn't started up yet.

I couldn't get the OF 1.0 update email (via OmniMouth RSS feed in Mail) to open either - it just caused Mail to hang. But, I didn't have the downloads.extremesims.com problem (it could be that the university firewall is sorting that out).

In the end, I gave up and went to the site to check the news. No real dramas, but I wonder what went wrong?

We've reproduced the issue here. Looks like that blog post had an enclosure that Mail was "helpfully" downloading. I think we can tweak that blog post so it stops doing that.
