Possibly I am not the first to note this, but the toolbar of the bookmarks window (if you choose to have that in a separate window) is not a "unified" toolbar.

Huh... I've been using OW5 for 2 years, and I never realized that you can click the little white pill (though I've always known its purpose) to bring up the toolbar! Makes sense though... ;)

The key is to set the window to be opened in a new window by default. If you just open it in a new window and then hide/show the toolbar, it is unified. The original poster didn't say one had to then click to show the toolbar, so I'm guessing John just repeated the original steps and saw that there was no toolbar.

Right! Now I get it! I had no idea there was a toolbar in there! Makes sense actually, but I never saw it as I have it set to open in the browser by default.

I like the way that Safari 'unifies' the favorites bar as well, but I suppose that would mean doing away with the favicons...

I mentioned in another thread that one compromise would be to convert the favicons to a single color, maybe even grayscale. Then they would still be identifiable but keep the toolbar looking clean. They would only be converted when they are added to the bookmarks bar.

Personally, I've grown to absolutely LOVE the favicons in the toolbar, because that lets me have bookmarks there with no label, so I can cram ten of them and still have lots of room for folders.
IMO, if OW replaced that damn ugly purple icon with the "standard" globe icon, that would work just fine. (Doesn't matter for me either way, 'cause I use the separate address bar!)
