If I import an OPML file, it does not use my default template that is used for new docs. How do I either import it so that it uses the styles of the template, or change that document (or any existing document) into another template?

It's not possible to apply a template to a file, but without knowing what your template setup is, you could copy and paste the imported doc to a new file created from your template. Or, you can copy the styles over from the template if that's all you need. To copy styles, you can either drag them over from the Utility drawer, or control-click on them and select 'Copy Style'.
If there's something else you're trying to do, let me know.
