Javascript links Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
Hi

I have reported this to (the very responsive) Omniweb support
and it is a bug allright, but just now I hit on yet another
site that seems to rely on some kind of javascript voodoo to do its thing
(http://www.gyldendalsleksikon.dk/leksikon/leksikon.htm)
and was wondering if anyone else are having this kind of
problem eg. you can click all day on a link - of the javascript
variety - and nothing happens. Again it works as it should
in Safari, which is annoying when all you want is to use
OW all the time. Also what is the technical reason that this
doesn't work in OW, anyone ?

The links on this page actually appear to be working for me. What specifically isn't working for you?

Is that a fact ?! Have you tried doing a search ("Søg" translates
to search). Please indulge me and do a search for say "karajan"
what's the last hit on the resulting page ?

(don't cheat and use Safari)

I get the same results as russophile.

Here's some more:

http://www.rr.com/flash/index.cfm

The Javascript links along the top (My Settings, Weather. etc.) don't work with OW 5.7 beta 2. (Haven't tried earlier versions.) They do work OK in Safari 3.1., Camino and Firefox.

http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/

None of the links on the bottom of the ocean image work in OW - OK in Safari.

Javascript remains a weakness in OW. There are problems, such as lack of Javascript printing support, which have been reported and acknowledged for a long time, but don't get fixed.

Indeed they just don't work.

Are we to regard your silence on this topic Troyb to mean
that the problem is being addressed or will it have to wait for
a later version ?

Sorry, I haven't had a chance to get back on the forums. Thanks for the clarification of the problem on http://www.gyldendalsleksikon.dk, we'll keep an eye on this it may be addressed in the newer version of WebKit that we'll be moving to for the next released after 5.7 is completed.

As for: http://www.rr.com/flash/index.cfm and http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/ all links are working for me, you may want to contact support and we'll try to track down your problem. (It seems like you may have some ad blocking preventing things from loading however).

I found that turning off add blocking (size) did eliminate the problem, but only after quitting and reloading OW. Simply turing off add blocking and reloading the page didn't work, for unclear reasons.

I still have a problem with bankofamerica.com online banking. Certain (javascript) links don't work depending on the page I'm on, with all add and popup blocking off. I don't have this problem with any other browser. I can't post a link because you have to have an online account to access.

I just noticed another issue with the first link (http://www.gyldendalsleksikon.dk/leksikon/leksikon.htm)

Right-clicking in the header area does not give an option to view page nor frame source.

Yeah it looks like everything in the header is either an image, form element or a link so there isn't anything to click on.

Using Web Inspector works though and it seems that
it's this bit of code in header_normal.htm

<input style="position:absolute;top:5px;left:244px;width: 384;height:25;background-color:#fffefa;font-size:16px;border-width:1;border-style:solid;border-color:black;"
id="input" onkeypress="top.searchInput(event)" type="text">

<a href="javascript:;" onclick="top.searchNow(event)">
<img border="0" style="position:absolute;top:5px;left:635px"
src="knap_soeg_nu.png">
</a>

that's causing the problem (ie. you can click till the end of time
without actually performing a search).

The searchNow function is defined in a Script.js file btw but I
don't know enough about Javascript or OW's implementation
thereof to pinpoint the problem. Not that the problem with this
particular site bothers me all that much but there is this other
site about which I have notified OW Support, and which I use
regulary, that seems to suffer from a like javascript related
issue so it'd be nice to get an informed opinion about what
could be the cause of this.
