I'd like to be able to select a range of OO topics, or discontinguous topics, then do a keystroke combination that merges all of them into a single topic.

This would be particularly helpful when cutting & pasting from some of those sources that insist on carriage return / enter after every line. Would also be helpful in regular outlining.

As I understand it, at present the only way to join two topics is to put the cursor at the front of the second item and delete it.

You just want to join adjacent rows that have no children, right?

If I'm understanding you correctly, you want to copy and paste something like this:

This is a test.
This is another test.
This is a third test.
This is the final row.

and end up with one row? If you want it to look like this:

you can accomplish it simply by changing where you click in OmniOutliner before you do the paste. If you click on the row selection handle before doing the paste, you'll get a separate row for each line delimited by a carriage return. If instead you click in the row text field before doing the paste, you'll get a single row as shown above.

If you want to reflow the text into a single long line you'll need to involve another tool or some manual editing.

The tool to remove the line endings is under Services: Format: Remove Line Endings

Only if you've previously installed some other software :-)

A quick check with Google suggests that this might be that software:

Thanks, but I guess I was not clear. The items I want to join together MIGHT be something I just pasted into the outline, but it might well be some items that were already there.

I want a command that would turn this:
This is a test.
This is another test.
This is the third row.
This is the fourth row with lots more stuff in it.

..into this:
This is a test. This is another test. This is the third row. This is the fourth row with lots more stuff in it.

Thanks!

If you install the software I mentioned, the command rogbar mentioned will do exactly that, and stuff the result into a new row immediately following the source.
