Amorphous projects Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I have things I want to make progress on, like play guitar and learn PHP. 'Practice guitar' is something I can set up as a repeating task, and assuming I have a practice book or set of routines already established, when I sit down to practice, I know what to do. Ultimately, I suppose I have one or more goals: 'Play pieces x, y, and z each from start to finish gracefully', or 'Enjoy making beautiful sounds for myself and others'. The latter is somewhat amorphous.

In terms of OF, I'm looking for how others handle lists of actions that never have an ultimate conclusion, but which might have some sort of progression of actions within the lists. Should these just be topic-based singleton projects?

One way is to use folders as the grouping with specific projects within. For your guitar, you may have

Learn to play guitar (folder)
* Play Song A completely through flawlessly (project)
** Play section 1 of Song A three times (action)
** etc.
I use time.

Read book for 15 min... and then set it as repeating.

I have to remember when the action is complete, to set the repeating to once and complete it so it doesn't show up.

Would be smart to have a repeating icon next to the action so I can tell the action is repeating.

Would be smart to allow a user to click on the repeating icon to set it as non repeating so the action is set to once before I move the mouse to complete.
