Secondary sorting by Project within tasks due at the same time? Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I have several projects with tasks all due tomorrow at 17:00.

In context view, I sort by Due. I see all my tasks due tomorrow listed at the top but they are not sorted by project (i.e. my priority projects listed first) like they appear in my project view.

I tried changing the sort key to Project (which does what I expect) and then back to Due, but it goes back to the same out-of-ordering. (It seems to want to use some inscrutable secondary sort key).

Am I missing something? Somehow I thought that this used to work.

Thanks,
-- Chris

This happens in 1.7.5 v77.41.6 121031 and also in Sneaky Peek 1.8 v77.46.0.126451.

Yes, it uses the order the actions appear in planning mode (aka project mode).

Well it isn't in my case. That was my point.

I tried creating a new identical copy of the action that was supposed to be at the top of my list and the new one is indeed sorted correctly to the top of my list in context view.

So it looks like a bug. There's some property the old action has that causes it to be sorted incorrectly. As far as I can see, the only way they differ is in the Date Added and Date Changed.

Aha: I've found out why:
When I exported to CSV, I see that they are due at:
2010-02-24 17:00:14 -0800
2010-02-24 17:00:19 -0800
2010-02-24 17:00:21 -0800
2010-02-24 17:00:54 -0800

So there seems to be a bug in how the "seconds" of the due date is getting set.

Hmm, interesting. I just exported all my actions with due dates to CSV. They all have 0 for the seconds portion of their due dates.

How do you enter your due dates? Are you maybe using one of the short-hand methods (e.g. now, tomorrow, next week)? Maybe those enter times relative to the exact current time, including seconds.

I just tried a couple ways:
"Today" enters 17:00:00
double-clicking on today's date enters 17:00:53

So it looks like double-clicking on a date does not zero-out the seconds.

That's some excellent sleuthing. Be sure to use Help → Send Feedback to report the bug.

Hmm, that's not the behavior I'm seeing. Here's my procedure:
  1. Create new action in an SAL
  2. In inspector, click little calendar grid icon at right end of Due field
  3. Double-click on some future date in calendar pop-up
  4. With due date assigned and my default time of 5:00 PM appearing in Due field, close inspector palette
  5. Export to CSV and examine time value, which is reported as "2010-02-27 17:00:00 -0800" (no seconds added)

Is this the same procedure you're using, crispy?

-Dennis

I use the Due Date column. Maybe it has something to do with that.

Here's how I can replicate it (on a newly created account):

1. Launch OmniFocus.
2. Go to View -> Columns and check Due Date so the Due Date column appears.
3. Click the Add Action button in the toolbar.
4. Type in a name for the action
5. Click on the calendar icon that appears in the Due Date column when you mouse over it.
6. Double-click today's date (highlighted).
7. Export as CSV

Hmm, I still can't reproduce it, even following your procedure. Seconds are always zero.

Can anyone else reproduce the problem?

Crispy, I think you should still contact Omni, regardless of whether it's a bug or not. They're best equipped to get to the bottom of this issue.
