non-repeating child in repeating action Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I have a project labeled as "weekly routine" and "monthly routine", with all the actions within set as repeating. These are for tasks that I know I have to do every week, such as "Pull stock status and adjustment log" and each have several children such as "email log to boss" "add to monthly adjustment file".

Now heres the problem I'm having;

In weekly, I have a action called "Monday Meeting", which is a meeting every week where our department heads get together and share and work thru any problems and share whats going on. The action currently repeats weekly, and I would like to be able to dump things into it thru-out the week to remember to bring up at the meeting. The only problem is when you put an action as a child of a repeating action, when you complete the parent action it creates the child in the new one for the following week, whether the child is set to repeating or not.

Any way to have children of a repeating action NOT repeat?

Don't use a repeating project. Find Curt Clifton's Populate Template Placeholders script, and use it to make the new project. You probably want to add an action to the end of the template project reminding you to make the new project for the next go around.

I have the template holder and use it regularly, but as the only thing it would "fill" would be 1 line, it doesn't really work for that situation.

Its not a repeating project, rather a repeating action within the "weekly routine" project with new child actions every week. It would be just as easy to create a new action every Monday after the meeting and just put stuff in it thru the week as it would to use the template. I use start date/time to hide everything for Monday until our meeting starts as its a standing 14:00 meeting, then it becomes available.

I guess it would have to be a feature request, but it would be nice if repeating could be applied or removed from child actions.

You misunderstood my suggestion, probably because I was rather brief. Instead of having your weekly routine project stuffed full of repeating actions, have a template project for your weekly routine, and make a fresh copy each week for next week. Now it doesn't matter what you change in this week's project, next week's will look just like the template.
