Is it possible to give objects or lines (arrows) a margin (or something like that), so that they don't actually touch?

Not without a hack.
The hack is to duplicate the shape, make the shape larger by whatever amount you wish your margin to be and remove all fills and lines to make it invisible. Then put it under the original, align their horizontal and vertical centres and group the two together. When you attach a line, attach it to the edge of the invisible shape. You might want to make a stencil if you are going to do this often:
