Problem with Mail to OmniFocus Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
The Sneaky Peek (1.1) is required for syncing with the iPhone version. OF 1.0.3 doesn't include sync capability.

Also, the sneaky peek uses a different database format, so I don't think reverting from 1.1 to 1.0.3 is possible without wiping the data.

Also, you can also use Help --> Send Feedback to contact the Omni support ninjas directly. They are phenomenally helpful, though probably a bit backlogged with the App Store launch.

I had a persistent problem with gmail and the clip-o-tron, until I made a smart mailbox that collected my unread mail from "All Mail" instead of the inbox. If you're using gmail you might want to give that a try.

Sean:
Thanks for finally figuring out what the problem was. It was driving me crazy since there were occasions when the script would work. In looking back at earlier messages, I had inadvertently inserted a space. Now, to always remember to insert the space......

The solution turned out to be pretty simple in my case. Adding a space between the "--" and action title in my message subject caused the actions to be created in OmniFocus. i.e. - "-- my action" = good; "--my action" = bad

In the body of the email message, having the space after the "--" did not have any affect for additional actions. However, there did need to be at least one blank return line between actions. i.e. - this i okay for the message subject:
--my first action

-- my second action

This was on Mac OS 10.4.11 with OmniFocus 1.0.1 sneakypeek (v77.1.3.0.97557), with the Mail Clip-O-Tron 3000 enabled.

Here is the error printed to the Console when the subject line didn't have the space after "--" or if there wasn't a blank line between message body actions:

brett, make sure you're sending plain text email - applescript doesn't play well with HTML or rich text email. That help at all?

nestorph - you probably accidentally typed a space into that field in the preferences. Remove the space from prefs and it should work with "--" or "-- ".

Mail to OF just seems to have given up in the last few days. Curiously I can send myself from the same computer an email to action with '--' at the front of the subject and everything is fine but from my work computer the mail gets filed in Mail as I stipulate in my OF Preferences but does not appear in the OF INBOX (and I have not set any Context or Project characters).

The Console shows the following errors being raised:

01/04/2009 10:26:40 OmniFocus[9505] OmniFocus calling process_message in MailAction script
01/04/2009 10:26:41 Mail[9540] An exception was thrown during execution of an NSScriptCommand...
01/04/2009 10:26:41 Mail[9540] NSData* -[WebArchive data](WebArchive*, objc_selector*) was called from a secondary thread

I have tried everything in this thread including sending using plain text and even re-installing but nothing seems to work!

Help please!

Did you recently install the Safari 4 beta? It upgrades some system components which affect many other applications, including Mail.

Is there a fix in the works for omnifocus and mail on systems running Safari 4?

I am also a victim of the same error:

Code:
7/4/09 6:12:21 PM OmniFocus[13592] OmniFocus calling process_message in MailAction script
7/4/09 6:12:22 PM Mail[13595] An exception was thrown during execution of an NSScriptCommand...
7/4/09 6:12:22 PM Mail[13595] NSData* -[WebArchive data](WebArchive*, objc_selector*) was called from a secondary thread
I really rely on mail->OF and was super-sad to suddenly discover a raft of actions my wife sent me that silently failed to reach my OF inbox.

Thanks a lot for that heads-up Ken - that was exactly my problem as it turned out. Uninstalled Safari 4 beta and presto, mail rule to Omnifocus started working again.
