Hello,

For two years I've been meaning to write this bug, but every time I screamed in frustration, shook my fist in disbelieve and then said "there's no way OmniGroup doesn't know about this annoying bug, they'll fix it".

Two years later....

Try the following:

1. Create a new project
2. Add a new action to that project
3. Undo

Your selection goes away, and it appears that your data has been deleted.

It hasn't, of course, you just have to dig through your dozens or hundreds of items to find the one you happened to have selected.

This is such an annoying bug that I can only imagine the team at OmniGroup is perfect in every way, and thus have no need to use Undo.

[Filed as feedback. Finally.]

How are you creating the project? I can't replicate this from your steps.

Same here, it works.
Sort of PEBCAC? ;-)

I doubt that. There are lots of ways to create a new project. I suspect jasong is using a different one than we use (or the QA ninjas use). Unfortunately, It isn't unusual in OF for the current selection to jump off-screen.

Hm. Odd. Just to make sure I wasn't in a weird state I did the following:

1. Open a new window (File > New Window)

2. Make sure everything's showing (Perspectives > Revert to Default View)

3. Create a new project (File > Add Project), name it, hit return to save

4. Add a new action (hit return) (I never noticed there's no "Add Action" menu command!)

5. Name the action and hit ESC to save (sigh)

6. Choose File > Undo and...

Nothing. Everything works as expected.

Sigh.

So I started experimenting, and found that the issue happens when I'm Focused on a Folder. So:

1. Open a new window (File > New Window)

2. Make sure everything's showing (Perspectives > Revert to Default View)

3. Add a new folder (File > Add Folder), name it, hit return to save

4. Focus on that folder (View > Focus On "foldername")

5. Create a new project (File > Add Project), name it, hit return to save

5. Add a new action (hit return)

6. Name the action and hit ESC to save

7. Choose File > Undo and...

Gone! Selection unselected.

Thanks for the push to find actual steps to reproduce. Since I'm almost always in a Focused state, I never thought of it.

Updated steps sent to OF.

It also happens if focused on a project. I filed a bug on this about a week ago, and DerekR said he'd previously filed one also, so we should be up to at about 3 votes for a fix now :-)

Slightly off topic, but you can save new actions with Cmd + Return (or Enter on a full size keyboard). No need for Esc.

In fact, you can turn off saving edits with the escape key entirely, if you like. As an added side benefit, doing so frees up your escape key to be used with Mac OS X's built-in text completion.

Quit OmniFocus and paste the following command into Terminal:

Code:
defaults write com.omnigroup.OmniFocus OOShouldToggleEditingWithEscapeKey -bool false
To remove this setting and go back to the default, use this command:

Code:
defaults remove com.omnigroup.OmniFocus OOShouldToggleEditingWithEscapeKey
-Dennis
