I am looking for a dependable Omni software to convert a very large [600+ page] PhD thesis, in PDF format, into a word document using my Mac OS X in order to make typo corrections, etc. Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Welcome to the forums! None of our products do exactly what you're looking for, I'm afraid. You might try running a google search along the lines of "extract text from pdf mac os x" - a quick search seemed to turn up some results that might be helpful.
(Moving this thread from the original location - in the OmniFocus forum - to the Lounge, since it isn't really about that app.)
