Have tried all the proposed solutions in this and the sticky thread. Can anyone point me to the steps necessary to DOWNGRADE to the previous version? I can live with 1.61 while the troubleshooting continues.

Digitalfilm, I'm really sorry about this, but the App Store doesn't include support for re-installing old versions.
It looks like Ken has figured out the problem and is pushing a new update to Apple, though. Once that goes live, this problem will go away for good. Until then, the rebuild database link in Ken's most recent post is the best way to work around the problem. (I'm going to add some additional information to Ken's post about what exactly is happening.) Again, we're really sorry about this.
