GTD: Things that take more than 2 minutes Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
When do you actually do the work?

When I read GTD, and when I read the GTD with OmniFocus whitepaper, it seemed to me that you only ever do things that take 2 minutes or less. Otherwise you delegate them. It seemed to be a system for executives, not underlings or independents.

As someone with nobody to delegate things to, I'm left wondering how anything ever gets done.

What am I missing?

Thanks

If you look at the chart again, you'll see that the choices were do it (if less than 2 minutes), delegate to someone else, or defer it (to be done later, by you). The 2 minute rule is intended for use while processing your Inbox. Instead of deferring the work until you are working on the project to which it would belong, you just do it on the spot (assuming that it makes sense and is possible to do so).

Once you've got your Inbox cleaned out and all the tasks assigned projects and contexts, you go and pick something to work on based on context, urgency, energy, etc. OmniFocus helps you make an appropriate selection by allowing you to see only the tasks you can do, keeping track of when they are due, etc. Have another look at pages 7 and 15 of the white paper.

Aha! Silly me.

Thank you! It's much clearer now.
