If I want to put "Today" as the due date, I open the Inspector, click on the Due Date thingy which opens the calendar, then double-click today's date, and that does it.

If I type the word "Today" in the Due Date space, I have to actually close the Inspector to make it stick. Just hitting Enter erases the word "Today". This is a drag if I'm setting

Is there some easier way - like a keyboard shortcut - to set Today as the Due Date?

You can just type "tod" in the Due Date column if that's displayed, then press Enter. In the Inspector you can type "tod" the Due Date field and press Tab to go to the next field. I find that typing "tod", or "today", or "Today" in the Due Date field of the inspector and pressing return or enter also works, so I'm not sure what's up. Note that I'm not going to the calendar thingee at all.

Hmmm ... when I type Today in the Due Date column and hit either Tab or Enter, it deletes what I just typed. The only way I can get a typed entry like "Today" to stick is to type it in and then close the Inspector.

However, typing in the Due Date column and then hitting Enter does work. Odd ...

Do you have a custom date style set in the System Preferences? I know that custom styles have interacted strangely with date entry in the past.

If I tab to the "due" column and type '0d' it's marked as due today. I can tab away and the date sticks.

Have you tried using "now" instead of "tod"? I wonder if it would be handled any differently - and it's always made more sense to me than "tod" anyway.

"now" sets the due time to the current time. So a task with a due date set to "now" will be immediately overdue. "tod" set the due time to your default due time on the current date.

you can also use future times from the next 24 hrs like 1pm , 7pm etc .. and it will pick it up as due today at that time . Not sure how it works with the inspector .. I usually set my dates right into the column.
