Setting Wrap to Shape Preferences Thread Tools Search this Thread Display Modes
I'm trying to use the application as a quick brainstorming app in the first instance.

I want to dump a bunch of ideas as separate topics intially and only rearrange them later.

I'm getting frustrated because the application creates inappropraitely sized and shaped rectangles for each bit of text. The text either overflows or is forced into strange and narrow vertical configurations.

I can fix this later, but it completely breaks the flow of thought.

I'd like to pre set a preference--or a template? to have the text box size itself according the the length of the text I enter, but have been unable to figure this out or find it in the documentation.

Thanks
Paul

Paul, I know what you're after is possible - you want to change your shapes' text settings from "resize to fit" to "overflow".

I don't have enough experience with OmniGraffle's Template system to get you across the finish line, though. We all browse the forums as we're able to do so, but if you email the support ninjas, you're guaranteed a response from someone who knows the app better than I do...

Try this on for size:

File->New Resource->New Template, choosing a template that is a good match for what you want

Click on the Text tool, then somewhere on the document.

Bring up the Style : Text inspector (cmd-1). Select the Resize to Fit option, and turn off Wrap to Shape. It should look like the first illustration.

Now save the document as a template with the Save command, naming it appropriately.

Create a new document from that template, using File->Template Chooser

Enter your ideas as text in the outliner, or by clicking in different spots on the canvas.

When you've got them all done (they'll just show up as plain text), go to the Canvas : Selection inspector (cmd-3). There should be a box labeled 0/<however many objects you created> with just a little speck in the box (see second illustration). Click on the box, and all of those items will be selected.

Go to the Style : Lines and Shapes inspector (cmd-1) and pick out the shape you'd like used for your boxes. Be sure to check the Stroke box, and make any other changes to the rendering.

Thanks to both of you. That solved the problem!
