It is always a nice idea to update IE 7 on Windows whether you use or not, it updates the mshtml libraries (think like OS X frameworks) too which is in use by many companies products including some die-hard MS competitors like AOL/Real Networks and so on.
I have read some people saying they use Opera/Firefox and they don't care, I was a licensed Opera user on Windows but I have never missed a single update to IE. Also that time, the bugs weren't this evil.
