As well the previous excellent implementation of visual tabs, the latest opera beta also allows you to put visual tabs on the side, a la Omniweb.

I tried it and still find it grindingly slow.
A real show-stopper for me is that there is still no 1Password integration possible. I use SafariStand in Safari to put the tabs on the side à la OmniWeb; not as elegant, but a reasonable compromise.
