I am the only staff resource on my project. As a result, I have a number of tasks which I will complete concurrently.

1) If I am doing two things at once how do I put this into effort, duration etc.

2) Amongst all my tasks, I have several tasks which will take one day per month over a period of six months. e.g. they are monthly tasks. I have set it up for the start date to be the start of month one and the end date to be the last date in month six. I have no idea how to set things up so that I show that I am only working 6 days in total on this.

To divide your energy among a couple of concurrent tasks, you use the task inspector to set the assigned amount of the resource for each task. For example:

Note that I put in 1h effort for Task 1, but it takes 2h duration because I'm only spending half of my time on it. I don't know how to get it to allow me to work full-throttle on Task 2 once Task 1 finishes without splitting Task 2 into 2 pieces.

For your other question, the answer is that you can't do that (yet) -- no support for segmented tasks. You have to put each one of those one-day tasks in separately.
