yes, select them and use the inspector

Alternatively, you can set the context for multiple actions by selecting them and right-clicking to choose a context from the contextual menu. For setting the project, however, you need to use the inspector as refulgentis mentioned.

I can't figure out how to multiple select inbox items. Neither shift nor command click nor "select all" seem to work.

Are you clicking on the selection handles at the left side? Clicking in the names won't work for making a multiple selection.
