On the Mac, there is AppleScript for adding functionality to Omnifocus. What have people tried on iPad? Are there companion apps? Any examples/source code available for these?

There is no Applescript on the iPad or iPhone versions. Apple has never developed the APIs for this.
One way to forward tasks to OmniFocus on your iOS devices is to pass URLs to OmniFocus: http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=18931 At the moment, this is probably the only way to extend OmniFocus for iPad and iPhone.
