View Full Version : Know of an iOS app that supports "Send to OmniFocus"? Post here!

I recently discovered a great App Underscore Notify (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/underscore-notify/id380866331?mt=8) for notetaking (well it ticks my boxes!). I emailed the developer at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon requesting that he incorporate Send to OmniFocus and got a response back at 8pm the same day to tell me that he was happy to and it would be in the next release! I've since been making regular feature requests on his board (http://www.underscore.se/underscore/index.php?bottom=forum) and found him incredibly willing to consider and actually implement them. Nice!

He just sent me an email saying the new version 3.2 has been submitted to Apple and now includes Send to OmniFocus. The App is universal and is only a quid (couple of bucks). It might be worth getting onboard now as I imagine the price can only go up. The App supports Dropbox, Box.net, Google Docs and Evernote with MobileMe iDisk coming in the next release (another of my requests). You might need to watch the video tutorials (I didn't and struggled badly).

As always, YMMV.

Brian/Anyone?

I've placed a post on the iPad forum for a universal App Underscore Notify (http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?p=88868#post88868) and having looked around the Board and the Omni website, I can't find a list of other Apps that support the Send to OmniFocus function. I posted recently on this forum that I found Twitterlator Pro had this feature by sheer chance.

Is there any possibility that we could have a thread on the OmniFocus root directory where Members can list Apps that support StO? I'd find this really useful.

If there is already such a list somewhere let me know and I'll go and stand in the corner!

Thanks.

Don't know of such a list offhand, but Instapaper 2.3 is another app that supports Send to OmniFocus...

Thanks, Bill, appreciate your response. I got Instapaper off of a tweet recently, probably one from Ken! If so, that made my investment in Twittelator Pro (http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=18648) worthwhile.

I could well be a lone voice on wanting a separate Board or a sticky in OmniFocus Extras (http://forums.omnigroup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=44) for Apps that have the ability to Send to OmniFocus, but I'd certainly find it helpful, also it would be great to hear what other Members think of each App and it's ability to link to OF, before I purchase.

I did think about opening a thread for this in the Omni Lounge (http://forums.omnigroup.com/forumdisplay.php?f=24) along the lines of my List your favourite Apps (http://forums.omnigroup.com/showthread.php?t=17155) one, but that didn't attract any interest (I probably should have named it better!) and this is a specific OmniFocus issue, rather than one of my 'any other' rants!

Thanks again. :)

Great idea, endoftheQ!

Rather than make a whole new forum for a single thread, though, I'm adding links to this thread from both the OmniFocus for iPhone and OmniFocus for iPad forums. That should let folks searching in either forum find the correct thread...

Instapaper now has this integration.

I hid a couple of posts by SpiralOcean, but not because he did anything wrong - it's just that we're going to try to keep this thread tightly focused on showcasing the apps that have added support for this feature.

Feel free to make other threads discussing those apps individually in the OmniFocus Extras forum; we want to keep this one for announcements. SpiralOcean, I'll PM you the text of your posts so you can do so if you'd like.

Read It Later Pro (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/read-it-later-pro/id309601447?mt=8) now supports Send to OmniFocus (StOF).

If you're familiar with Instapaper, it's essentially the same thing, it allows you to bookmark and read material offline. I have both, and since the latest release, have been blown away by how much better RIL is against Instapaper but, as always, YMMV!

Like Instapaper, RIL maintains a very simple interface but also hides an extensive range of features behind actions such as swiping left to right in list view or doing a two-finger tap when reading an article.

It also allows you to switch between pure text and graphic modes, which helps when trying to download things such as bulletin board threads etc. for later reading, which often come a cropper in Instapaper. There's also a wide range of connectivity options to other Apps and services, such as Box.net, Delicious, Digg, Evernote, Pinboard, etc.

I've asked Nate (the developer) to see if it would be possible in a future release to have the StOF function send two links to the note field in OF, a live link to the source and another one to the stored offline material held locally within the App.

RIL is a universal App and it's currently on sale (40% off).

IMHO definitely worth a look!

Apparently I need at least 1 post to be able to post URLs, so this is a fake post to make the next one (next page) possible.

DraftPad (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/draftpad/id358067114?mt=8) (free) is one I came across last week that supports StOF. App launches directly to a notepad, lets you decide what to do with the note later (send to a ton of different apps, customized emails and other apps if you know the helper call function (whatever it's called, like "omnifocus:///").

Cyberspace, universal web browser for iPad and iPhone allows you to send to OmniFocus. Toggle switch in Settings>Cyberspace>Actions & Services.

Is it good to have a browser send to OmniFocus? I'm not sure myself.

Personally I'd prefer to have it send to Instapaper where I can select only the relevant verbs and send them to OF. Personal preference and depends on what you're doing of course.

Hi All,

I recently released an email reader that allows you to send an email to OmniFocus. You instantiate this action while viewing an email and it will launch OmniFocus using the 'add' URL with the subject filled in as the title and the email body as a note

eMailGanizer, itself, is an email reader that was designed with GTD in mind. While it's main focus is on getting your emails into your reference folders as fast as possible, it also is aware of @context folders, and it allows for adding emails to your calendar as well as OmniFocus.

You can learn more about eMailGanizer at:

http://www.emailganizer.com/

or download it for free at:

http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/emailganizer-intelligent-email/id404118595?mt=8

Thanks,

-Rich

What's the difference between the free version and the Pro version, besides a $5 outlay?

The difference between the Pro and the ad-supported versions of eMailGanizer is the advertisements and the resulting screen real-estate side affects. You can upgrade within the app and that is the recommended path.

your OmniFocus Action Link Creator doesn't work with iphone. The link just shows up as non-clickable text so you can't use it to add a task on the iphone. Am I missing something?

I asked Henrik last year if he'd consider a modification to the StOF function in Underscore Notify (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/underscore-notify/id380866331?mt=8), which he has kindly incorporated into the recently released v.4.

Now, if you send a link to OF from UN, it links to an actual page within a notebook, useful if you have large multi-page scrapbooks.

He also mentioned that the next release should incorporate iCloud support so that notebooks will be automatically synced across devices.

Launch Center (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/launch-center-tap.-tap.-go!/id488626436?mt=8) supports Send to OmniFocus (StOF) and is currently on sale at 99¢. You can set up a variety of OF lists, ie. clipboard becomes note, etc. as well as schedule an action entry, ie. create action at 5pm every day.

It's an iPhone app (not Universal) but will run on iPad at iPhone original resolution or pixel-doubled.

Drafts (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/drafts/id502385074?mt=8) by Agile Tortoise (http://agiletortoise.com/drafts) supports "send to Omnifocus" and "Add in Omnifocus as Note". It's a great little app with a lot of sharing support, Markdown and TextExpander Touch support.

Looks like this thread hasn't been updated in a while, so I'll try to bring it back to life.

Mr. Reader is an excellent RSS reader that includes a Send to OmniFocus feature. the app supports many Google Reader replacements as well as standalone feed reading. It has a ton of features and the developer is very responsive.

Dispatch is a really great – but very feature-minimal – mail app for iPhone which has "Send to OmniFocus" integration besides many other integrated apps: http://www.dispatchapp.net
